Behnaam Aazhang, J.S. Abercrombie Professor, along with Andrew Sendonaris (BS '93, MS '95, PhD '99), now at Qualcomm, and Elza Erkip, Polytechnic University, has been selected winners of The Communications Society Stephen O. Rice Prize in the Field of Communications Theory. They received the award for their paper "User Cooperation Diversity - Part I & Part 2", published in IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, VOL. 51, NO. 11, NOVEMBER 2003.

The Communications Society Stephen O. Rice Prize in the Field of Communications Theory was first presented in 1975. The prize includes a plaque and honorarium for each author. The paper is judged on quality, originality, utility, timeliness, and clarity of presentation. The paper must be an original paper, in the category Communications Theory, published in the IEEE Transactions on Communications in the previous calendar year.

The award will be announced at IEEE International Conference on Communication (ICC) in Paris, France during the Awards Lucheon on June 21.
